Man Spanx: The price of vanity

Man Spanx: The price of vanity

Last updated: January 2011

The 607 cotton crew by Sara Blakely, $58, is described on the "Man Spanx" section of the Spanx website as a "cotton compression undershirt." Or as our engineer said, in tech-speak, "It is basically a shirt for a man that acts as a girdle." It's cotton and spandex/elastane and comes in black, gray, and white and in five sizes. To see whether Man Spanx reduces love handles and muffin tops (more tech-speak), we had one brave tester tell us about it and another volunteer to pose for the photos below. Man Spanx changed our tester's profile, reducing his waist from 42 inches to 41 and shrinking the tummy above his belt. It's well constructed and was in fine condition after being washed. That said, our guy found it hard to put on and take off, very constricting, and uncomfortable to wear for a long time.

Bottom line. A man who wants a slimmer look and doesn't mind a slimmer wallet and a little discomfort might like Man Spanx. (There are boxers and briefs, too.) For other men, we advise fewer calories and more exercise.
