Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's
our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on air conditioner
models like the AEM06LQ.
Btu/hr.:
The unit's cooling capacity, as supplied by the manufacturer (and as certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, AHAM, unless otherwise noted in the Recommendations & Notes). Capacities range from 5,000 British thermal units per hour (enough for a modest-sized bedroom) up to 12,500 Btu/hr. (adequate for a large, sun-drenched room or even two interconnected rooms).
EER:
The energy-efficiency rating, as supplied by the manufacturer (and as certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, AHAM, unless otherwise noted in the Recommendations & Notes). The higher a unit's EER, the lower its operating cost compared with other models of its size.
Min window width (in.):
The minimum and maximum window-widths into which the air conditioner will fit. If your window opening is narrower than the minimum width, the air conditioner will not fit. If your window opening is wider than the maximum width, the side panels will not cover the entire opening.
Tested Model
The Ratings of GE AEW06LQ (Walmart) were applied to untested model GE AEM06LQ, which in our judgment is enough alike in its performance, features, and specs that our test results apply to both.
GE is the market-share leader in window air conditioners. This brand is available at a wide variety of independent and regional appliance retailers and at Sam's Club and Wal-Mart. GE's window air units range in price from $150 to $300, and in Btu from 5,000 to 25,000. GE makes units that are Energy Star certified.

Remote control Much like the remotes for home-entertainment devices, these wireless devices control almost any function on the unit. They're especially useful if access to the air conditioner is limited, as when the unit is mounted through the wall at ceiling level. The remote generally works well anywhere in a room, although some may not work as well when they're used far to one side of the air conditioner.
I never take the time to post online reviews but felt compelled because I was so frustrated by the contrasting reviews when I began researching which unit to buy a few months ago. I needed something for a very small bedroom and quietness was my top priority as I'm a light sleeper; of course the unit needs to cool properly. This is a fantastic little machine that's super-quiet and does a great job in the small bedroom where I installed it easily. It's not silent, but I believe as close as you're going to get with a machine that still needs to operate a compressor, fan, etc. There's a relatively bright little temperature display but I've covered that and am thrilled with the purchase.
How long have you owned it:
One-to-three months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
This unit was a replacement for the GE 6,000 BTU which I WOULD NOT RECOMEND as it only had a 2 speed fan and would not cool my 15'X20' bedroom, so I returned it NO PROBLEMS to [@] and paid $219 plus taxTHIS 8,000 BTU General Electric, (sadly made in CHINA), COOLS DOWN the room VERY QUICKLY and comes with a remote and a POWERFUL FAN
