Compressor did not work from start

Any Room
When first turn on ran great and quiet. After an hour or two started making extremely loud noise for a few minutes and then would stop again for an our and repeat. Loud enough to wake in middle of the night. Hopefully just a defective model because when not making the noise runs great and quiet.
