Air Purifiers Buying Guide

Americans spend more than $350 million each year on room and whole-house air purifiers-also known as air cleaners-mostly in the hope that they'll ease the symptoms of asthma and allergies. But there's little medical evidence that any air cleaner alone can do that effectively.

Brands

In 2007, 4.6 million air purifiers were sold. Sharper Image, which had a 9 percent market share in 2007, has been left off of this list because of its recent Chapter 11 filing. The primary brands sell 53 percent of portable and console units. Use these profiles to compare air purifiers by brand.
