Comment:
Second Danby we've owned, first lasted over 10 years and was quieter and equally effective reducing humidity in the basement. New model has scroll fan, more compact vs increased noise level ... we can watch tv with the unit running 12 feet away, so it's not unbearable.

Comment:
After reading reviews for countless dehumidifiers I gave up trying to pick an individual unit because somebody has had a problem with (seemingly) every single unit for sale. Instead, I googled which brand was most reliable and people said good things about Danby (I had never heard of it before). I bought the 70 pint / day version of this product back in late June / early July and three months later the unit has performed flawlessly. Humidity plummets as soon as you start it and so far the unit has been very reliable after near-continuous operation set at 45% humidity (it's dehumidifying my basement/crawlspace area of about 1000 square feet that is reasonably dry to begin with). I'll write a follow-up post if problems crop up, otherwise you can assume that I haven't experienced anything adverse yet.

One word of caution - monitor the drainage hose closely. There's a reason it's clear. If you see mold build up, you need to move the position of the hose so water flows out of the hose continuously. If there's a low point between the dehumidifier and where the hose empties, water will pool and mold will grow and (eventually) block the hose. I had to clean the hose once already because I didn't have the hose in a good position, but otherwise I've just moved the hose to ensure that it drains well.

Great unit so far.

Comment:
The unit did an excellent job of removing moisture when I first got it, but problems started after just one season of using it. It turns out the evaporator became defective and Danby would not authorize repairs. They are working on getting me a replacement unit as it is still under warranty; however, their customer service falls in line with most customer service departments out there- NOT GOOD! They first said a unit was going out on the day I called, but after following up a few days later, I found out that did not happen and nobody was actively working on a solution. After many phone calls back and forth between Danby and THEIR authorized service center (why am I the one doing the calling?!!), I made progress. Unless YOU follow up on every step with Danby, you may be very disappointed in their delivery of customer service. Danby should be doing the legwork under their warranty provisions, but that did not happen with me.
