Old version Great - New Version is Junk
Short Distance Moisture
Consumer Reports needs to do an updated review on Humidifiers.
The Crane Penguin was (emphasizing WAS) a great humidifier.

We had one several years ago, it worked great for several years... age (and constant use) took its toll, so we bought the same one (so we thought)

Note a design (and obviously decline in quality) change..
--if you buy the model with the on off switch in the back- that was the previous model (that worked)
-- if you buy the new version (with out the power on off switch on the back you have the new junk model)

Within a few months ours has been yelling, sputtering, and having a complete fit.
-- no doubt the motor has given up.

We live in Colorado, so very dry here, we have a whole house humidifier, but need just a little more moisture in our bedroom when we sleep

The design of the penguin (besides being darn cute) -- the body is easy to fill, has a great capacity, and you can see how much is left.
The downsides, as the moisture leaves the beak it does take a quick dip downward, so you do need this closer to you when you use it, otherwise effects will not be noticed. The base does hold water, and can get scale or retain deposits which are rather nasty -- so you will need to clean that up (& or try using distilled water)

Consumer Reports.. PLEASE do an update on your ratings!!!! -- this is NOT the same product you have reviewed highly.
How long have you owned it:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
