Easy to clean
Ignitors Do Burn Out
Not An Exclusive Harmon P
Whole House If You Have O
We use to heat a two story home, pellet stove is in living room. In coldest far northern NY weather -30 degrees f. we use about one bag a day. we use room temp setting, automatic, which means fire will go out when temp is reached.
Glass stays clean a long time, compared to our bargain brand which blacked out the glass within hours of cleaning.
Our Harmon was the replacement for that pellet stove.
We have had to replace the ignitor 3 times, every time it was covered by warranty. Apparently the last one was lastest revision as it has now lasted 3 seasons after the last of electrical warranty ran out. Harmon came out with a burner change which they did under warranty. I never had to pay a cent for any repairs which dealer came to my home to do.
It should be noted that pellet stoves are complicated with many moving parts and electric components. they will need service, especially cleaning.
A note to the reviewer that mentioned smell. Pellet stoves use fan forced draft, that means the flue pipes have to be absolutely sealed no leaks! Even a pin hole means smoke can enter the home.
we had trouble finding the source of smoke smell when we first installed our pellet stove. Finally we called the fire department to let them know we were going to use a smoke bomb to test our flue system. (make sure stove is running before doing this)The whole house was covered in smoke outside and we did find the pin hole in the pipe seal behind the stove, sealed with high temp silicon and never had any smell again in the next 5 years of use.
As far as cleaning, yes a pellet stove has to have ash removed, but compared to cleaning ash out of a cord wood stove, the pellet stove has a lot less, using the best softwood pellets I can find I only clean about 2 times in a season. Using all hard wood pellets I have to clean every month or more.
Quality of pellets is even more important than quality of stove.
I have heated with pellets for over 10 years, owned a cheap stove that broke down regularly after warranty was up, motor failures, control failures, etc.
The Harmon stove even with its ignitor failures has been a dream to use.
Remember even with an ignitor failure the stove can be lit manually, switched to stove temp control and be used without worry as the fire will not go out, but go to a very low burn rate when room temp has been reached.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
