I already had the tall Dyson fan, and wanted something for Wisconsin winters to boost heat in a single room as I usually leave my thermostat at 60 during the day. So I got this on a 25% off sale. It heats up very quickly, within 10 seconds or so it is blowing hot air, and even 10 feet away you can feel the warm air.<br /><br />I don't find this loud at all considering all the tower fans I've gone through before switching to Dyson. <br /><br />Best oscillation of any tower units I've tried, and the fact that it can tilt up and down to direct airflow is a plus.<br /><br />It's stylish as well, far more visually appealing than other things. <br /><br />The unit does not get too hot to the touch anywhere on it, so it's safe for little ones and pets. <br /><br />I use it in a open concept area, 15 foot ceilings and great room / dining room / kitchen are all one space with a half height wall floating between the kitchen and great room, so there's a lot of space to heat. It does well keeping the area I'm in warmer, and monitoring the thermostat I can see the temperature going up as well.<br /><br />Expensive if you don't get it on sale, but it's doing a better job than the other two types of space heaters I've tried.

simple to set up. thermostat actually works, shuts off at a temp. you set it at then comes back on. a little noisy but acceptable. remote control is very handy.

Don't waste youR time buying (and then returning this unit) as I did. What was/is CR thinking - reccomending Dyson as their #2 choice? Someone at CR was out to lunch. <br />My central heater went out, I borrowed a friend's Lasko heater till the repair was made. It worked amazingly well - EFFECTIVE. I liked having a space heater so I read CR reviews and bought the Dyson model. It was COMPLETLY INEFFECTIVE. I returned it and bought the lowly rated Lasko and have been warm as toast since. <br />Have to admit, I'm left scratching my head why CR wrote it up as their #2 pick in the ceramic category. Thanks for wasting my time CR!!
