Comment:
We have a two-story home and the thermostat is located downstairs. Our unit provides heating and cooling, is single stage and has no humidifier. With the old thermostat it was almost impossible to get the upstairs rooms comfortable.

For us, the best feature of the Prestige unit is its available remote thermostat. This is a separate thermostat, which is powered by AA batteries. We can set the remote anywhere in the house but we keep it in the master bedroom, which is upstairs.

Before we got the remote, i.e., with our old thermostat, it was almost impossible to keep the master bedroom at a comfortable temperature. It seemed always be either too hot or too cold. That was because the temperature was being read from the downstairs, which depending on the seasons, would be hotter or lower than the upstairs. With this remote, we can choose whether the thermostat reads the temperature from the main thermostat (downstairs) or the remote (upstairs). It's incredibly easy to choose; it's done by pressing the screen of the remote or the screen of the downstairs unit. So, at night when we're upstairs, we choose the remote and during the day, when we're mainly downstairs, we select main unit, downstairs. The result of this is that we now have comfortable temperatures.

Installation is suppose to be done by a professional but we installed it ourselves and we are by no means HVAC professionals. Installation was very easy and consisted mainly of connecting the color coded wires that were connected to our old thermostat to equivalent matching connections on the new unit. I should add that our home is only 8 years old. So, if you have a much older home, I'm not sure that the installation would be as easy. Also, the old thermostat was also a Honeywell but a much more simple unit.

The new thermostat has a vacation mode, which we find quite useful. You can program it to run at different temperatures for any time period you choose. At the end of the chosen time period, the temperature settings return to normal. So, while you're on vacation, the temperatures can be set to outside your normal comfort level and when you return, the thermostat will have returned them to normal.

The thermostat also can be programmed to remind you when to change your furnace air filters. I believe that it then measures the fan time and when the fan has run the selected time, a message appears on the thermostat.

All in all, this is an excellent unit. I'd highly recommend it.

Comment:
As noted elsewhere- this is a contractor only product, but that is not a reflection of its actual complexity. I was able to install this fairly easily on a Satruday afternoon.

My favorite feature on this system is the circulate option- it runs the fan 35% of the time without turning on the heat or AC. This really helps even out the temperature between different floors, and keeps the air moving in the house to reduce that stale air feeling you can get when everything is closed up. Even with the fan circulation, our utility bills dropped with this unit since the heat and AC didn't have to compensate for the temperature differences around the house.

The available wireless remote is great when we run the fireplace- we can set the thermostat to measure the bedroom instead of the living room (where the fireplace is) so we don't freeze the rest of the house.

The maintenance reminders are great- I never forget to change the filters anymore!

Comment:
Easy install - Honeywell list this as 'pro install', but I think that is just to protect thier dealers. If you have a fair knowledge of your system, install and comfig is easy! This is also one of very few units that will run my system with 2 stage cool, 4 stage heat, and dehumidification. The duct sensors and Delta-T monitoring will also be good to monitor equipment performance, and the indoor/outdoor sensors should help greatly in efficiency management.

And Internet connectivity on this system (via RedLunk gateway) is the cherry on top!

The only two features I would add are ability to specify which sensor is to be used for which period in the programming, and also to allow separate fan programming for heat and cool (my 20 year old White Rogers had this . . . ) since constant fan at night is much more desirable with AC than heat.
