I purchased two of these thermostats (one for home and one for vacation home) after researching for months. I had previously purchased a Nest which was a huge mistake. Venstar is a strong, accurate thermostat and it couldn't be easier to use. Large touchscreen selections that make sense. The remote app (we use androids) is superior to any other home automation app. It always works and is carefree. I can't see why this wasn't listed as a best buy. For under $200, I challenge anyone to find a better thermostat - knowing what I know now, I would pay much more. Also, the company is extremely fast in answering any questions you might have on installation or use. One piece of advice - when you go to replace your old thermostat, take a picture of the wiring with your phone so that you can readily recall where the wires attach to the new thermostat. We keep our vacation home on economic settings but about 1 half hour before we arrive, we step up the AC or Heat settings so that the house is ready for our arrival. Couldn't be happier the Venstar thermostat.

Remote control
I have several of these. I use them to control an AC system, a hot air system, and combo ac/heat syatem, and a hot water boiler system. I can control them all from one App on my Iphone. I use them at home and vacation property. It is easy to use and works great. One property seems to experience internet outages and the thermostat does not always connect back up automatically. This is my only criticism. Away setting instantly switches my system to minimum preset temperatures. I can set my home thermostat down during the day and have it come up to a somewhat higher ( or lower if Summer) temperature at a set time and then fine tune it up or down if my schedule changes. It does require a separate dongle for wi-fi connectivity. There are also kits to adapt it to 2-3-4 wire systems. 2 wire systems will require a plug in transformer which can be located at the furnace/boiler controls.

I have a 5800 Color Touch and a 5900 Color Touch. They are essentially the same, but the 5900 also handles humidity control. Neither unit has the auto learning or auto away features of the Nest Thermostat, but Nest was incompatible with my dual fuel Trane unit. I tried for over a year working with Nest engineering, but in the end it was a no go. I loved the Nest, but the Trane is a very acceptable alternative with the wi-fi dongle. Wi-fi control is the key for me to get the most savings and the most comfort.
