The lid hinge failed after about 11 months, longer than most, with a small plastic cast hinge(pin) breaking off.

My choices are; taking the top apart and redoing the hinge with a 2 cent screw and nut, or..

Paying about $20 for shipping for a replacement.

Consumer Reports was used as one of my research sources to purchase this, and they completely missed this!!!!

Either of these choices will now make me not consider any future purchases from the Conair corp.

Their brands are Cuisinart, Waring, Rusk, Jheri Redding, Babyliss, Scunci, Allegro, Interplak, TravelSmart, Conair Hospitality, Conair Pet, Pollenex

Buyer beware cheap products and designs!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment:
I bought this coffeemaker based on the recommendation of ConsumerReports, but will end up replacing it very soon. It's the worst coffeemaker I've ever owned. It's poorly designed carafe requires that it be fully inverted in order to pour all of the liquid out, which makes it difficult to fill the machine with water and to get all of the coffee out once it's done brewing.

Additionally frustrating, is the design of the coffee hopper, which makes a mess of grounds throughout the machine on every large (10 or more cups) pot brewed, lifting and distributing coffee grounds into the water reservoir and all over the inside of the machine while brewing.

I will be getting rid of this machine asap, and am very disappointed that the original recommendation from CR was so far off the mark. It seems impossible to me that this was actually tested and that these flaws went unnoticed.

Comment:
4 stars for coffee brew quality, 0 stars for coffee maker quality. We bought this coffee maker about 18 months ago, based on the CR review and recommendation. We noted in owner reviews posted on this website and on other review sites that there were problems with the lid breaking, and vowed to be very careful in opening it. Despite our care, the lid still broke. Note that it is very difficult to pour water into the reservoir using the carafe because the lid doesn't open as fully as most coffee makers (we use our extendable kitchen faucet to fill). Shortly after the lid broke, the timer button fell off, and, recently, the reservoir started leaking (this morning, I had about half a pot of coffee, though I had filled the reservoir the night before).
