About - Hamilton Beach 46201

The Hamilton Beach 46201 is part of the coffee maker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffee maker models like the 46201 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance:
The ability to reach 195° to 205° F for five or six minutes, the industry standard for optimal brewing.

Convenience:
Reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, and cleaning up. It also reflects how clear we judged the controls.

Carafe handling:
Covers handle comfort, tendency to drip while pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve cups or are self-serve models. The latter hold the coffee in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

I love the removable water resevoir and swing out basket BUT: We make 2-3 pots a day here and have had this machine for about 9 months. Within a month or so, it started making loud, sputtering noises like you'd expect at the very end of a brew cycle for the ENTIRE brew cycle. Sister-in-law renamed it the gurgulator. Despite regular cleaning with vinegar, the brew cycle has grown from about 5 minutes to more than 10 minutes, making that noise the whole time. It has started to leak from somewhere around the basket in the past week. Overall, disappointed.

Wife got the first one for me as a gift. It made great coffee but after 4 months it shut off and never came back on. Hamilton beach said cut the cord and take a pic and they sent a new one. Great! Easy! However here we are 4 months later and the new coffee maker did exactly what the other one did. It's 5 am and I want my coffee and there is dead coffee maker! No error code. The outlett is fine. I think they are just junk. So I pull out the mr. Coffee circa 1986 and make a nice cup o joe. i am going to keep using my 30 year old coffee maker because it's just better than the new stuff. Period.
