About - Calphalon Quick Brew 1838804

The Calphalon Quick Brew 1838804 is part of the coffeemaker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffeemaker models like the Quick Brew 1838804 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance:
The ability to reach 195° to 205° F for five or six minutes, the industry standard for optimal brewing.

Reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, and cleaning up. It also reflects how clear we judged the controls.

Carafe handling:
Covers handle comfort, tendency to drip while pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve cups or are brew-and-dispense models. The latter hold the coffee in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

I purchased this without doing any research on CR.
My mistake. I used it 6 days, one pot per day, before it broke. I filled the water tank and picked it up by the plastic handle which promptly broke. The tank fell and the weight of the tank, full of water, broke the tank. I have read other reviews with the same problem. I took it back to Bed, Bath... without the box with no problems. Thanks for that BB&B

Very good coffee maker(when it ran!) with a good design, especially the separate water container. No need to mess with the decanter - just pull out the separate water container, fill, and place it back at the rear of the coffee maker. Much easier to use than refilling by pouring water out of the decanter.

The problem is reliability! We've had two of them now, and both stopped working within 3 months! Very disappointing quality.
