About - Cuisinart Crystal SCC-1000 Limited Edition Perfec Temp

The Cuisinart Crystal SCC-1000 Limited Edition Perfec Temp is part of the coffeemaker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffeemaker models like the Crystal SCC-1000 Limited Edition Perfec Temp are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance:
The ability to reach 195° to 205° F for five or six minutes, the industry standard for optimal brewing.

Convenience:
Reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, and cleaning up. It also reflects how clear we judged the controls.

Carafe handling:
Covers handle comfort, tendency to drip while pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve cups or are brew-and-dispense models. The latter hold the coffee in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

Comment:
As another reviewer noted - the lid became unhinged - could tape it (with removable painters tape) so it would work, but can't find black painters tape - that blue tape is quite unsightly. We are careful in handling our stuff, so it ain't us. It's wrapped and ready for sending back to the Chef's Catalogue Store.

Shouldn't CR re-look its rating - retest to see if breakages are merely an anomaly?

Comment:
I agree with Consumer Reports that this unti makes good and HOT coffee. I was very happy with the unit. However, the coffee maker started leaking after just 1.5 years. I tore it open and found of the hoses was dried out and broken. I replaced the hose and it worked for two weeks until the burner failed.

The quality is lacking not in just this coffee maker, but in many of them these days. They just don't last like they used to. I would expect Cuisinart to last better but it doesn't.

Comment:
I follow Consumer Reports religiously, and appreciate all their work, but they missed on this one. The coffee may be hot at first brew, but if you wake up to coffee already brewed its just luke warm by the time you get there ... 30 minutes after the brew time for me. The basket that holds the filter has a handle that gets in the way of dumping the filter so that grains get everywhere. But most challenging is the carafe which spill water all over the counter at night when you fill it, and coffee spilled all over in the morning. Sometimes it runs down your arm and onto your morning clothes. It looks good, but I would not recommend if you want to use it.
