About - Hamilton Beach Ensemble 4325[4]

The Hamilton Beach Ensemble 4325[4] is part of the coffeemaker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffeemaker models like the Ensemble 4325[4] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance:
The ability to reach 195° to 205° F for five or six minutes, the industry standard for optimal brewing.

Convenience:
Reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, and cleaning up. It also reflects how clear we judged the controls.

Carafe handling:
Covers handle comfort, tendency to drip while pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve cups or are brew-and-dispense models. The latter hold the coffee in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

Brews weak coffee and has design flaws
5/17/2010
Pros

Durable
Easy To Use

Cons
Hard To Clean
Weak coffee brew

Comment:
Used every day. Has no internal water level measure, unable to remove the carafe top so it can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

The first time we used it my wife and I both noticed how weak the brew was compared to the same amount of coffee used in the Mr. Coffee machine it replaced. We compensate by adding more coffee grounds that results in more costly daily use.
How long have you owned it:
One-to-three months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Eh, not that great

Pros
Large Pot
Stylish
Cons
Brew is not robust

Comment:
It's pretty poor for brewing. The coffee has no body to it, regardless of how much grounds you use.

The place where you pour the water into the resevoir is not all that great either. It's a small target and prone to spills.
How long have you owned it:
A month or less
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
Overall, a pretty good coffee maker. My only complaints: 1. The carafe cover can't be removed without breaking the plastic tabs on which the cover pivots. The carafe can't be cleaned in the dishwasher (until you break the pivot nubs!); 2. The plastic rim (upon which is mounted the carafe cover), is permanently mounted on the glass carafe. It isn't designed so that 100% of the coffee (or water when rinsing the carafe) can be removed...about 1 teaspoon of liquid remains behind. This coffee maker replaced an old Braun coffee maker...Hamilton Beach: The Braun had a really well-designed lid on their glass carafe. Back to the drawing boards!
How long have you owned it:
Three-to-six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Unit Fails after 1 Month
06/24/2009
Strength
Coffee is OK.
Weakness
Unit Fails after 1 Month and Hamilton Beach wants $15.99 to replace failed unit (plus ship old power cord)
Our Hamilton Beach 43254 Classic Stainless 12 Cup Coffeemaker was defective.Steam rises from the top and front of the unit causing the LCD display to fog up and the LCD is turning black from all the moisture. Hamilton Beach wants $15.99 to replace the failed unit and want us to chop the cord from the old unit and mail it to them at our expense too.I would not recommend this unit to others due to the terms of the warranty (fee to high, for their problem).

Hamilton Beach does it again

Strength
Great price, good coffee
Weakness
Top lid has to have room to flip open
I have owned several Hamilton Beach coffee makers and have yet to be disappointed. This is a great buy and great coffee. The only thing I had an issue with was when adding water to coffee maker you have flip the top lid 180 degrees to fill. My coffee maker sits on my counter, with top cabinets above and I have to move coffee maker out from under cabinets each morning to fill. This is somewhat of a nuisance but I have gotten used to it.

Good coffee maker for the price

Weakness
Short power cord
I bought this for $50 delivered. I wanted a no-drip carafe, brew interrupt to get a cup, and easy to clean. So far (one month) this meets the bill. I am happy I bought it. It is kind of boring to look at, but I don't spend much time staring at it.
