Over all it is a functional design, simple to use and space saving. But like most coffee machines the thermistors (controlling heat and empting all a water) change with time failing to produce good tasting coffee. Don't know why the engineers do not over come this failure...except for planned obsolescence or price control. Otherwise it is a greater unit!

Great machine, I found some filters on line that just fit the basket keeping sediment to a minimum. Also lip of basket will not seal good if coffee gets under the sealing gasket. I can brew 2 cups by adding a little more coffee and adding more water as it brews into a larger container. You can experiment to find your brew strength. Pretty flexible.

I had initially decided to buy a Keurig Mini, but went with the HB Scoop instead because it was less expensive, did not require a k-cup filter, had an adjustable shelf, and because of the convenience of being able to scoop my own coffee. I absolutely love that machine! The instruction manual advises that the consumer uses filtered or distilled water, and that if such water is used, the brewer should be cleaned once a month. It advises that if you use regular tap water, you clean it out once a week. I have yet to purchase a water filter, so I have been using tap water and cleaning the machine once a week. So far, it works like a charm and my coffee tastes great! I think it may taste even better once I start using filtered water, but until then, no complaints. I would advise any one to consider the quality of coffee they are using. A poor taste may be due to the tap water in your area or the coffee itself, or maybe even a combo of the two. Personally, I love Cafe Bustelo, Starbucks brand, & comparable products, but am not a fan of Folgers or Maxwell House or store-brand coffee. Since I bought the Scoop, I have been using Cafe Bustelo because it is just as good (if not better than) Starbucks, but it's a lot less expensive. My coffee always tastes good coming out of the Scoop, but then again, I am using quality coffee and I have a pretty good tasting tap water in my area.
