About - Krups XP160050

The Krups XP160050 is part of the coffeemaker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffeemaker models like the XP160050 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance:
The ability to reach 195° to 205° F for five or six minutes, the industry standard for optimal brewing.

Convenience:
Reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, and cleaning up. It also reflects how clear we judged the controls.

Carafe handling:
Covers handle comfort, tendency to drip while pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve cups or are brew-and-dispense models. The latter hold the coffee in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

Comment:
Krups used to make quality products. My expresso maker lasted 13 years. It was made of metal. This stuff is plastic and poorly made. Poorly engineered, parts don't fit together right. Breaks quickly.

Comment:
I recieved my KRUPS MODEL XP160050 for Christmas 2013. My third time using the steamer to make a latte, and it did not work. The light would not go on. The steamer would not make any steam what so ever. I looked at my manual. I read it throughly. I trouble shooted. Then decided, the machine was not quaility and had malfunctioned on my third time of using it. So returning the machine for a better coffee maker.

Comment:
I've used Krups for years, but I have to find a new brewmaster. The espresso pot and filter are not dishwasherproof--even with no heated dry, the plastic lid breaks off the pot itself. The filter leaves smudges on my hands, which disturbs me. The coffee's good, but i need to find a more durable pot.
How long have you owned it:
Three-to-six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
