I think Consumer Reports completely missed the boat on this one. We bought the much higher rated Verismo model based on the CR recommendation. It did not get the coffee hot. If Starbucks sold coffee at that temperature in their stores, there would be only one Starbucks and the barista there would be very lonely. So, the other problem with the Verismo was you had to buy the very expensive Verismo pods with no other options.

The Bunn My Cafe MCU is all about options. First, it will work with the K-cups which gives you the ultimate in variety and convenience. It makes a K-cup taste great by sizing the coffee serving precisely to your taste, and by getting the coffee quite hot.

But that's just the beginning. The My Cafe MCU has a pod that you can load with any coffee you want. It's a little more trouble to clean, but again, the variety is unlimited and you can make a bigger cup of strong coffee. The MCU will also work with soft coffee pods, tea pods and regular tea bags, and it makes a delicious glass of instant ice tea. Also, outputs hot water for soup, etc.

CR's complaint about the first cup being slow is off base for most people. The water in the machine stays hot all the time. After six hours, to save energy, it drops back to 140 degrees. From that temperature, it takes one minute to get the water back to the brewing temperature of 200 degrees. After 26 hours, to save energy, it enters sleep mode. From that point, it takes two minutes to get it back up to brewing temperature. If you make coffee every day at approximately the same time, the longest you'll ever have to wait is a minute for the water to get hot.

This is not the perfect coffee maker, but compared to the Verismo 600 . . . well, there's really no comparison.

I use my Bunn MCU for everything. I have used k-cups, ground, pods, tea bags, I've tried it all. Yes, you have to wait a bit to heat it up on your first cup of the day, but you have to do that with most of them. I like the coffee that I get from this Bunn. I don't notice excessive noise. No worse that any of the other single-serve brewers I have had. This Bunn takes up much less space than other single-serve coffee makers and I bought a little rolling pad to put it on so it slides in and out from under my cupboards with ease. I really love this machine and am very glad I bought it.

We purchase Bunn My Café MCU as a family Christmas gift. We use it for coffee, tea, and hot water, making three to four servings or uses every day. There is no longer a pot of wasted or stale old coffee. The microwave required a lot of wasted energy to heat a cup of water. My wife makes tea placing the square shaped tea bag into the tea drawer. Hot water makes Rahman noodles, hot chocolate, and oatmeal. I make coffee using either the ground coffee drawer or the K-Cup drawer. Bunn used the KISS method when designing this machine, making it multifunctional yet simple.
The machine is simple to use, load the proper drawer with product of preference, pour in the chosen amount of water equal to the final beverage size (4 to 14 oz.), Place empty (size appropriate) cup in position, activate or deactivate the Pulse button, and press the brew button. In an instant, out it comes.
The speed at which this machine functions is fast, but after it goes to sleep it needs wake up time of maybe 30 seconds to a minute. Start the wakeup ahead of time by just cycling a drawer in and out or toggling the Pulse button. By the time it takes to add coffee to a drawer, it will be ready.
This machine provides limitless volume choices for making any beverage between 4 oz. and 14 oz. While other machines may have a set amount, small or large, 6 oz. 8 oz. My Café beverage volume choice is simply by the amount of water poured into the top.
I use the Ground Coffee Drawer and add my own coffee; K-cups are very convenient but I found they have a price for the convenience. I also think the K-Cups are a bit weak or make too small a cup regardless of the brand. The Ground Coffee Drawer incorporates its own reusable mesh filter. A disposable filter would make empting the grounds from the Ground Coffee Drawer easier. The mesh filter does pop out for easy cleaning but empting the grounds requires a bit of rapping the Ground Coffee Drawer on the edge of the trash can sink and then running water to dislodge the rest.
Service support is just absolute. I did not expect it to rise to this level. One morning I made coffee using the Ground Coffee Drawer as normal and it overflowed coffee and grounds all over. A clogged mesh filter would produce such an event. I thoroughly cleaned the Ground Coffee Drawer and mesh filter with a soaking in vinegar and washed in dish soap until it looked brand new. It still overflowed and I tested all the other drawers checking if they too overflowed but they did not. I reduced the amount of coffee and once again, the Ground Coffee Drawer overflowed. Reading the included manual, I discovered there is an o-ring/seal on the lid of the Ground Coffee Drawer. After inspection of my Ground Coffee Drawer, I discovered there was no longer an o-ring/seal on my drawer. I concluded it must have fallen off during the rapping process used to empty the grounds and landed into the garbage can, which is now gone from the curb. A search for the o-ring/seal on line was fruitless. I called Bunn customer support (1-800-325-2866) and after about two rings, they answered. The answered with a normal business type greeting and then asked for the model number. I provided the model as MCU and they then asked what I required. I responded indicating the subject was the Ground Coffee Drawer and that I need the o-ring/seal. Before I further could explain further, the agent asked for my mailing address so they could send me the seal free of charge. Afterward, I explained what I believe happened to the o-ring/seal. I recommended adding an additional note under item ten of the Ground Coffee Drawer instruction referencing loss of the seal.
There is only one thing I find the slightest bit annoying is the splatter. When the water, coffee, or tea exits into the cup, it splatters a bit out of the cup.
This machine produces what it says, a very good and hot cup of coffee, tea, or water with no waiting and no pot of waste or old coffee. I am so glad nothing serious happened as I really like this machine. Customer support turned out to be great. Functionality is simple leaving to the thought of what more would one really need to produce a cup of coffee.
