The Bosch NET5054UC is part of the cooktop & wall oven
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric cooktop
models like the NET5054UC are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
Reflects how quickly the highest-powered element heated water to near-boiling.
Reflects how well the lowest-powered element or burner kept a low temperature as for melting chocolate and how the most powerful element, set to low, held tomato sauce below a boil.
About This Brand
This high-end brand offers a full selection of German-engineered kitchen appliances. Bosch gas, electric, and induction cooktops are priced from $800 to $3,300. Bosch is sold at Lowes, Sears, Best Buy, and independent appliance retailers.
High-power elements The number of surface cooking elements rated at over 2,000 watts. Often one or more of the high-power elements is a dual element; you can choose the large element or a smaller element within the larger one for small pots.
Medium-power elements The number of surface cooking elements rated at over 1,500 watts but not more than 2,000 watts.
Low-power elements The number of surface cooking elements rated from 1,200 to 1,500 watts not including warming-only elements, or those contained within larger expandable elements.
Expandable elements This allows you to switch between a large, high-power element and a small, low-power element contained within it
Touch controls These replace knobs with integrated touch-sensitive controls that allow the controls to blend with the cooktop's glass surface.
The ultra-sensible layout of this cooktop is what really makes it a winner for me. 2 medium burners in front, one with dual elements & the largest (also dual) in the rear center. The 36 version gives one ample room to slide pans aside when not in use, something especially frustrating on newer gas stoves.

The touch controls are fabulous, unobtrusive & easy to use, once one adapts to them (not difficult in a digital age). They provide very precise control over simmering temperatures, far easier than peeking at the level of a gas flame under a pan. (I've had many models of gas stoves including high-end restaurant models with cast-iron burners, griddles & salamanders).

Also easy to clean & beautiful to look at.
