About - Kenmore 1327[ ]

The Kenmore 1327[ ] is a dishwasher available from Kenmore. The 1327[ ] typically costs $459.99.

Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on dishwasher models like the 1327[ ].

Ample flatware slots:
Flatware baskets with lids provide individual slots for most of the utensils in our silverware load. Such lids prevent "nesting" and thus improve flatware cleaning. It is more time-consuming to load the cutlery into individual slots, though, so you can remove the lids if you prefer.

Adjustable upper rack:
Most models hold cups and glasses on the top rack, plates on the lower rack, and silverware in a basket. The ability to adjust the upper rack up or down an inch or so allows for more flexibility in loading items such as tall glasses.

Sensor:
A sensor adjusts water usage and cycle time to the amount of soil on the dishes. This should make a dishwasher use water more efficiently, but we found that wasn't always the case. Moreover, a sensor can increase a machine's running time.

Tested Model
The Ratings of Kenmore 1328[3] were applied to untested model Kenmore 1327[ ], which in our judgment is enough alike in its performance, features, and specs that our test results apply to both.

About This Brand

Kenmore, the largest dishwasher brand in this country, is known for its reliability and dependability and has three lines: Kenmore, Kenmore Elite, and Kenmore Pro. Prices range from approximately $250 for a basic Kenmore model to $1,600 for the double-drawer dishwasher in stainless steel ($1,400 in white). Major features such as the TurboZone power-scrubbing mode tend to be shared among the higher-priced Kenmore models ($650 and up) and the Elite models. Kenmore recently introduced steam cleaning, hidden-control models as well as top-rack-only wash on some Elite models.

Comment:
Purchased Model 1379 online for in-store puckup.
Clear install directions, easy load/unload--the layout of the racks is very clever, and adjustable.

It cleanes quietly and completely, and I don't pre-wash before I load. The filters are easy to access and clean (weekly, say the directions). I don't use the heated dry.

Relative to the low-end GE model I replaced, the interior components seem sturdy and I expect them to wear well.

I can't imagine what higher-end models do that this doesn't. A great product and value. Thanks CR.

Comment:
Too bad you can't test-drive a dishwasher. I never would have purchased this one, if I could have used it just once before purchasing. Things I didn't know or didn't consider, that you should:
1. The silverware basket is too large. It runs the entire length of one side of the bottom drawer, taking up about 20% of the space, so there isn't enough room for many pots and pans.
2. The 4-hour delay shuts off each time you open the door. We usually load the dishwasher and set the 4-hour delay after dinner, but add other dishes before bedtime. With this dishwasher, the 4-hour delay shuts off when you open the door, unless you press 'start' again when closing the door.
3. Stuff just doesn't fit well in the upper shelf. The rows seem to be too close together, and the plastic clips which hold the drawer guides on protrude into the dishwasher too far, getting in the way of loading dishes along the sides.
4. The bottom drawer rolls back into the dishwasher, unless pulled all of the way out. You can't pull it half-way out to add dishes - it rolls back in while you're trying to load them.
5. It dries poorly. There's always lots of water on plastic items, and especially in the bottom of the dishwasher, when done.

It is quieter than our previous dishwasher, and seems to clean well. But, oh, how I miss our old Maytag!

Comment:
Good looking SS front, well designed gray plastic dish holders, off-white plastic interior. Happy that this DW lower rack holds large diameter dinner plates and large pots, while missing the center spray arms. Does a good, quiet job of cleaning, but you cannot help but smudge the SS exterior of the unit when closing the door. Also, I feel that the interior detergent compartment closure door locking mechanism is a little flimsy, and will prematurely fail. But this DW only costs $500, not $1,000+, and is an economical buy IMHO.The extra room inside comes from making the pump compartment lower, which adds a challenge in the installation. To easily install, buy the [@]offered $12.00 DW installation kit with an 8' x 3/8 FNPT SS braid compression hose with fittings and plumb the supply and drain while the DW is inverted before sliding it undercounter, feeding the hoses into the undersink compartment while sliding. Be sure to properly position a dedicated 20A, 120VAC power supply cable (not supplied) before sliding in the DW.
