About - KitchenAid KUDS30IX[ ]

The KitchenAid KUDS30IX[ ] is a dishwasher available from KitchenAid. The KUDS30IX[ ] typically costs $800 .

Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on dishwasher models like the KUDS30IX[ ].

Ample flatware slots:
Flatware baskets with lids provide individual slots for most of the utensils in our silverware load. Such lids prevent "nesting" and thus improve flatware cleaning. It is more time-consuming to load the cutlery into individual slots, though, so you can remove the lids if you prefer.

Adjustable upper rack:
Most models hold cups and glasses on the top rack, plates on the lower rack, and silverware in a basket. The ability to adjust the upper rack up or down an inch or so allows for more flexibility in loading items such as tall glasses.

Sensor:
A sensor adjusts water usage and cycle time to the amount of soil on the dishes. This should make a dishwasher use water more efficiently, but we found that wasn't always the case. Moreover, a sensor can increase a machine's running time.

Tested Model
The Ratings of KitchenAid KUDS30FX[SS] were applied to untested model KitchenAid KUDS30IX[ ], which in our judgment is enough alike in its performance, features, and specs that our test results apply to both.

Comment:
Different plastic parts began cracking after 3 years....the top rack adjustor attached to the roller wheels cracked and fell off and the piece that prevents the top rack from coming out too far when pulling the rack out also cracked and fell off. All the cracks were in the gray plastic pieces. Looking online apparently quite a few others have had same problem too. Some feel it is because the plastic becomes brittle from the heat. Problem...even though mine is 3-4 years old, when looking for a new dishwasher, the same plastic pieces are in the new brands too!

Comment:
Plastic axles holding wheels of upper tray fractured after 2 years of use. Note: this is a common problem that costs $200 to repair as each of two roller housings cost $49 plus service. Apparently the plastic becomes brittle with use leading to failure. The tops of the silverware trays are flimsy. To keep the lids in place you need to tie them down with plastic straps.

Wheels On Top Rack Break

Comment:
We have owned this DW approx. 3 years. We use it daily. Initially it cleaned well. At 13 months the wheels on the top rack broke. We have had to install these twice at the cost of $75 for parts each time. During the second yr we had to replace the motor/pump. During the 3rd year it quit cleaning the top rack (checked the spray arm for any clogs which it did not have)so we only use the bottom rack. We rinse and clean the dishes before loading and they still come out dirty. The filters are clean. When the motor was replaced the rapair man recommended using dishwasher magic monthly, always running hot water to sink before starting, and putting dishwasher powerball in bottom of washer instead of in reservoir. We also use jet dry as recommended. None of this has made it reliable at cleaning our dishes. The silverware holder dividers are useless because they fall inward and we have removed most of them due to the inconvenience of them. The tines do not fold flat on the lower rack so it defeats the purpose of being adjustable. I agree with others that the front controls are very sensitive and easily get turned on or off accidentally. I could have dealt with those inconveniences but having dirty dishes has made this a very frustrating purchase. We had a maytag for over 10 years that did a great job. We chose this model based on CR reviews but less than 2 years of clean dishes has been a big disappointment. We thought Kitchen Aid was a dependable brand but that obviously is not the case. We will not be buying a Kitchen Aid again.
