Cuisinart DLC8S
4/9/2012
Pros
Easy security features
Easy to use
Great for pureeing
Great for slicing
Quiet
Very good warranty
Cons
Best Uses
Grated vegetables
Pie doughs
Sauces
Comment:
very powerful motor, no problems pureeing anything I put in it. Wish the mixing bowl had some sort of pour spout. The feedtube does not configure with the slicing and shredding discs very well and you can end up with about a third of a carrot, for example, spinning around on the shredding disc doing nothing. I got this on sale for [$], marked down by 50%....great deal as it replaced one that was almost 30 years old.
How long have you owned it:
Three-to-six months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

must replace a part every 18 months

Pros
Shreds OK
Cons
Made of cheap plastic
Best Uses
Comment:
Myself and two other people I know that own this model had to replace the cracked stem that attaches the grater and slicer wheel about every 10 to 18 months at a cost of about $30.00 for the part. They used cheap plastic on this model that seems to be made to break down after a short time. The external plastic parts have longer wear.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Cuisinart DLC-8S Pro Custom 11 Food Processor
02/28/2006
Strength
Power, versatility, attachments
Weakness
Somewhat complicated safety features.
I am so happy to have gotten this Cuisinart. I resisted for a long time because I had a mini food processor and Kitchen Aid standing mixer with cutting attachments so I thought I didn't need one. But now that I have it, I use it almost every time I cook. You can do so many things with it. I love it especially for things I hate to do like chop onions and shred cheese. It is also very easy to clean up and doesn't take up too much more counter space than the mini. The only think I have found frustrating is making sure every piece is in the exactly right place and orientation. It will not turn on otherwise. This safety feature is probably worthwhile, it just takes some getting used to.

Strength
Big bowl and strong engine
Weakness
Boring design
This machine does the job and you can put quite a bit of stuff in its 11 cup bowl. It even handles small bread-doughs with its strong engine. Could have made it look better, but then again it is not sitting out all the time anyway.
