I don't use this every week but during some times of the year i use it more based on season. i am one of the many who have had the same experience with breaking plastic parts. the locking piece broke in less than a year. why on earth would i pay $39 for a part when the price of the unit is under $100? It's frustrating because all we end up doing is throwing the unit in the garbage and it ends up in a landfill. i wish manufactures would be held to higher standards when it comes to appliances.

Comment:
Cheap plastic work bowl breaks very easily rendering unit inoperable. Bad engineering and not expected from KitchenAid at that price. Very disappointed. It would have been better to buy a cheaper brand name that may have lasted longer?

I actually would have nothing but great things to say about this machine if the locking mechanism on the handle were better designed. I bought it based on reviews here but in retrospect I wish I'd read the many reviews from another mega online retailer prior to my purchase. The locking mechanism on the handle has a very cheap, brittle plasic mechanism on which it relies to lock and function. The plastic cracked within 3 months. I should've taken it back but had an infant (I was using the machine mostly to make babyfood - nothing too harsh). I rigged the machine so it still worked but eventually has failed again and again and is now seeming to fail permanently. Replacement (bowl) parts to fix this problem run half the cost of the machine and that seems steep for a problem that will inevitably happen again. New machine it is!
