About - GE FCM7SU[WW]

The GE FCM7SU[WW] is part of the freezer test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, freezer models like the FCM7SU[WW] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
Temperature performance combines results of several tests that measured how closely the manufacturer's recommended settings matched the ideal temperature at 0 degrees Fahrenheit and how well a model kept optimum temperatures in all parts of the freezer despite constant changes in room temperature ranging from 55 degrees Fahrenheit to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

Energy efficiency:
Energy efficiency reflects energy use for the usable volume (our measurement) based on average energy costs.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Meat And Vegtable Storage
Comment:
Purchased the GE 7 cubic foot freezer primarily for meat storage. Have over 200 pounds of food in the unit and is working well. Meat and veggies are frozen solidly and evenly. Unit is very quiet. Will look at it once-in-a-while to see if it is on. As for electic efficieny, have not seen any noticable rise in electric bill. The yellow Energyguide that came with the unit reads 277kWh estimate yearly use and approximately $30 dollars yearly operating cost.

Comment:
I purchased this freezer @ Home Depot on a spur of the moment to save my meats, etc... when my refrigerator died. This freezer has lots of room, runs smoothly & quietly. Has two upper storage baskets to keep fragile items on top. It does get a slight frost buildup on the inside walls, but this is normal since I have this freezer in my garage which is very hot from the Florida heat! Would be perfect if there was a retractable drain hose for defrosting since the drain is so close to the floor. All in all a great freezer for under $200.

Comment:
Have had the freezer nine months with no issues. Is very quiet and solid. My only wish is that GE would make it just a little more energy efficient (not that I notice that it is using a lot of energy, but I'm basing my comment on the Energy Star rating) and include a temperature alarm.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
