About - GE FUF14DVR[WW]

The GE FUF14DVR[WW] is part of the freezer test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, freezer models like the FUF14DVR[WW] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
Temperature performance combines results of several tests that measured how closely the manufacturer's recommended settings matched the ideal temperature at 0 degrees Fahrenheit and how well a model kept optimum temperatures in all parts of the freezer despite constant changes in room temperature ranging from 55 degrees Fahrenheit to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

Energy efficiency:
Energy efficiency reflects energy use for the usable volume (our measurement) based on average energy costs.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
Just past one year with this freezer. Cycling period ~1h, compressor noise smooth but louder than with any other freezer or refrigerator I've owned in 40+ years. Use this inside to store grains, nuts, flours, et al., so infrequently accessed. No evidence, none, of leakage around door gasket, and temperatures are well-distributed in time and space (experimentally tested). Outside surface temp nominal. Knock on wood, and I'd buy this one again if need be, since my Kenmore 20+ft**3 frost-free, nearly 30 years old, may eventually die.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
This freezer was delivered at 3 p.m. and by 5 p.m. the same day it was completely dead (no power). Store I bought it from said I had to call the GE 1-800 warranty number to resolve the problem (I've only had it 2 hours!!!). The repair guy came the next week and replaced the little circuit box thingie on the front of the door and the freezer came right on. I am very leary of putting anything in it for fear it will crash again, but suppose as the days pass and it continues to run without failure, I will regain some some confidence in the product. I had a somewhat small space to accommodate a freezer and this 13.7 cu. ft. is the ideal size. The interior is well lit and the shelves are well-spaced. It is, however, very loud when it runs, but is in a laundry room away from the main living parts of house and I can live with it. I gave it only an average rating because I do not yet know how dependable it will be, as it is just now up and running for a whole 2 days. BTW, even though the emblem says it is GE, the repair guy told me it was the same as a Frigidaire, so if you're bouncing back and forth between the 2 brands, don't waste your energy with indecision.
How long have you owned it:
