The first freezer we bought new but after plugging it in we started smelling a strong fishy oder coming from the freezer. No doubt they sold us a used freezer. They brought a replacement freezer and it quit working 4 days later and ruined all our meat (the reason we purchased a freezer in the first place) [@] would not replace our meat. DO NOT BUY THIS FREEZER. HORRIBLE.

Fast frost build-up; Flimsy lid

Comment:
I replaced a 35 year-old [...] chest freezer with this one because I was afraid the old one would finally die full of food as happened with an upright freezer several years ago. I should have risked it. This freezer has less capacity than the old one for the same 50 wide space and the lid is very light and flimsy. I always check to see that the lid and gasket are securely closed after closing it. Even with that, there is 1/4 of frost on the walls and I have only had it one week! I returned a new Frigidaire chest freezer of the same capacity (same freezer but Frigidaire label) for the same reasons after the repairman said it should not be happening but was unable to repair it following 2 attempts. I thought perhaps the Kenmore brand would have been a different manufacturing 'run' so would not have this problem and space limitations precluded other models. It appears this is a design flaw. I would advise keeping any older, functioning freezer rather than replacing it with a new one. They are just not of the quality that the older ones were. And, what energy efficiency is gained if the inner walls are covered with frost?
