Comment:
Would you like the sound of 747 taking off in your kitchen every day? Then run, don't walk, and buy this Hamilton Beach juicer. It worked well for several months, then decided it was time to retire: the on/off switch broke, and we had only used it once or twice a week, if that.

I have heard all juicers are tedious to clean, so I don't know if the full minute of scrubbing required to clean the filter basket is par for the course. But nothing gets the basket cleaner than the plastic brush that comes with it, so don't lose it! Cutting the produce helps you get more juice out, but if you're juicing greens, it will be more cost-effective to just chew them like a mule and swallow them. The juice you get from greens can be measured in molecules. This might be the case with all juicers; this was my first juicer, so I don't know. The HB will, however, juice the heck out of cut-up apples and carrots.

What I did like, while the HB worked: All removable parts can be washed on the top-rack of the dishwasher. There is no getting around pre-scrubbing the metal juicer basket for a full-minute with the plastic brush before it goes in the dishwasher, though, if you want optimal juice flow. If you line the pulp container with a bag while juicing, the pulp makes great compost which is easy to transport outdoors. The juice cup has a pour spout, making it easy to pour the juice you have just made into another's glass, if you're sharing. The HB juiced most things pretty well, as long as it lasted, and the juice was good.

Word to the wise: Unless you are a masochist, DO NOT LET PULP DRY IN THE FILTER BASKET. Should you do this, soak it a long time before you commence to scrubbin'.

Best practice: Drink juice you have just made, then immediately scrub basket, rinse pulp from all removable parts, then put them in the top rack of the dishwasher. If this juicer hadn't broken after a few months of use, I would have rated this more highly. The juice really does make you feel wonderful.

Comment:
I used the juicer four times a week juicing fruits and vegetables. The juicer quit running properly and it was replaced under warranty (lost partial power). The first lasted four months. The replacement arrived and it worked well for another four months. It too failed. Hamilton Beach will not stand behind their product any longer. I would not advise to buy.

Upon arrival one of the handles was only connected on one side of the hinge. With fidling I've made it work. The vent hole sprays bits of vegies all over the counter, floor and passing dog. To move it around you have to hold the debris bin to the machine as it only stays in place on a counter. The motor is powerful enough to do tough vegies like beets so it does work. Just not well. I'm thinking a juicer, like a toaster, is easy enough to build but not build well. I will be looking at commercial or at least more substantial models of these appliances in the future.
