About - Whirlpool GFE461LVQ

The Whirlpool GFE461LVQ is part of the kitchen range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric range models like the GFE461LVQ are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful element could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3 quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects the ability of the lowest power element to melt and hold chocolate without scorching it. We also set the most powerful element to its lowest setting to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

Baking:
This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

I purchased this oven from Bob Wallace Appliances in Huntsville, AL in March of 2010. In November of 2012 the oven would heat up, burn the food and display an error message. The repair was $465 dollars. Because the oven was fairly new and the stove top was working fine the repairman recommended repairing rather than replacing. In May of 2014 the same thing happened again. Burned food and error message. I called Bob Wallace Appliances and explained what happened, they offered no compensation or discount to have it repaired or replaced. They called Whirlpool on my behalf and Whirlpool offered nothing. I won't buy another Whirlpool and I won't shop at Bob Wallace Appliances again.

I decided to buy this Whirlpool stove as I had one previously and it worked fine for many years. The glass top surface and new cleaning features appealed to me. Then exactly 15 months after I purchased the stove one day the oven shut off. I tried to reset it and it kept doing it and it was getting way too hot and burning the food. There is a self testing mode and the code that came up said I had a Runaway Temp. I replaced the temperature sensor and got the same problem . The only other option is to replace the main computer board. I couldn't believe it as it is like new but the warranty had already expired. We are a family of 2 and do not use the oven part of the stove very often. Maybe 3 - 4 times a week total. I called Whirlpool and explained the situation and they said they would send a technician out and set up an appointment for me. I then had to ask them if they would charge for this and they told me yes. They made the appointment first without telling me I need to pay. For financial reasons I decided to repair it myself. I then called two part stores and the part costs $300 but one store said they can't order it yet for some reason and the other said it will take 6 - 8 weeks. Now I am stuck with a bad oven I paid good money for that doesn't work. If you are looking for a new stove do not buy a Whirlpool!

We purchased a kitchen full of Whirlpool Gold products, the Refridgerator is noisy and the oven broiler comes on with no warning while in bake causing food to burn very suddenly.
