About - Maytag MGR7661WW

The Maytag MGR7661WW is part of the kitchen range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, gas range models like the MGR7661WW are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful burner could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3-quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects the gentlest burner's ability to melt and hold chocolate without scorching it. We also set the most powerful burner to its lowest flame to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

Baking:
This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

Comment:
Overall, a great value. Minor annoyance is the oven temp control, which defaults to 350, then makes you press up or down buttons repeatedly to adjust temp in 5 degree steps, with a loud beep at every press. Getting to 400 degrees requires 10 button pushes, accompanied by 10 loud beeps.
How long have you owned it:
One-to-three months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
I bought this product and as soon as it arrived it was defective. The stove would not pre-heat as it said it would in the manual. I also confirmed that the model should pre-heat when I called Maytag directly. I returned it and got the same model. When the replacement arrived, it did the same thing. This not a good sign. Clearly this model has some problems.
