About - Maytag MGR8674AS

The Maytag MGR8674AS is part of the kitchen range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, gas range models like the MGR8674AS are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful burner could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3-quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects the gentlest burner's ability to melt and hold chocolate without scorching it. We also set the most powerful burner to its lowest flame to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

The gas oven does not heat up properly!
Attractive Design
Large Surface Area
Heats slowly
Imprecise Temp Control
Unreliable Performance
Best Uses
The range was purchased as part of a Maytag rebate package (microwave/dishwasher/refrigerator)in April of 2013 but wasn't installed until the summer. Didn't use the oven much if at all. Started to notice the problem in the Fall. When a pork roast took an additional hour and a half from what it was supposed to take we purchased an oven thermometer. The stove top will say it is preheated to the proper temp, but the thermometer will say it is 100 to 200 degrees under. We have had a repair person out 3 times so far, the last time a new liner, clock and sensor were installed. Still not working correctly!!! Very unhappy! Seems that other folks are having problems of the same type as well. Warranty will end soon, so they better do something to make me happy.

I had to get a replacement oven and it is doing the exact same thing. The oven turns on by itself and it is very hard to clean. Sears and Maytag gave me terrible service.

We have had to have four service calls and two separate stoves delivered. Both with the same problem. When you start the oven the smell of gas fills not only the kitchen but the entire house. And that is if you are lucky enough for it to start and actually light. Calling today to return it entirely and demand our money back.
How long have you owned it:
Three-to-six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
