About This Brand

LG recently introduced a model with a door that swings upward and is introducing a model with a keep-warm feature--new to the market--and bottom controls. It was LG that introduced the glide tray, which moves from side to side instead of in a circle--good for rectangular dishes--and also hidden vents. LG also introduced the blue interior cavity in its products. The microwaves are available for $300 to $800 at Home Depot, Sears, and large regional and independent dealers.

Comment:
I bought this microwave based on Consumer Reports' review, and it's been a very disappointing purchase. The first unit was completely defective and wouldn't even run -- returned it to the store for a replacement. The second one works, but unlike my previous 14-year-old Sharp, the sensor is completely worthless. Baking a potato resulted in a shriveled rock, and vegetables were the same. The only way to use this microwave is to guess at the timing rather than use the automated controls. LG has offered to let me take it to a service provider to see if they can fix the sensor -- but if it comes off my microwave shelf, it's getting replaced with a different brand. Based on these real people reviews, though, it's hard to know which brand to choose. Very frustrating.

Comment:
After 14 months the unit would turn ON when the door opened. That is to say, when the food was done and the microwave shut off (or if the oven was off to start with) the light and fan and turntable would all come back on when you opened the door. LG said it was out of warrenty even though my online link to the warrenty indicated two years. Won't buy another LG. Amazon Reviews are at 3 stars for this item. Another Consumer Report recommendation was at 2 stars. I will weigh Amazon reviews higher in the future.
