Comment:
This is the second Kenmore 72123 I've had in 3 months. Both exhibited the exact same issue of permanently dropping down to 80% power from overheating after about 5 minutes of cooking on full power. The only way to get the oven back to full power is to reset it by unplugging it.

The cause appears to be from the warm air being exhausted towards the rear of the oven, where it's recycled back into the oven for cooling. I'm sure it would be fine sitting on a table in the middle of a room, but that's not practical. I have it on the kitchen counter with about 4 clearance in the back, 5.5 overhead clearance to the cabinet above, 1 clearance on the left side and unlimited clearance on the right and front sides...a pretty typical kitchen counter installation.

My previous Panasonic oven in the same location forced the warm air out towards the front of the oven, leaving cool air available in the back for air intake...a much smarter and fully functional design.

I'm returning the second oven and will try a completely different microwave, as this is obviously a design flaw, not a defect.

Guess one can't expect it to last when you pay $150.00 for it. Pretty unhappy. First Kenmore Micro lasted 20 years and had a huge interior. This one is small. Will never buy Kenmore again.

This is the second Kenmore Elite we have had. The first one lasted 3 years. This one lasted 2 years. We will never buy one of these again. We called Sears and they will not fix it because we did not buy a protection agreement and it is out of warranty. They will send a tech to the house but that would cost more than a new microwave.
