The KitchenAid KHMS2040BSS is part of the microwave oven
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, over-the-range microwave oven
models like the KHMS2040BSS are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This reflects how evenly a model reheated a dish of cold mashed potatoes.
This is based on how well the automatic-defrost program defrosted one pound of frozen ground chuck.
Speed of heating:
This score is based on the temperature rise of water heated in the microwave.

Watts This is the manufacturer's figure of the microwave power output. In general, the more watts an oven offers, the greater its cooking power-and the faster your food will be cooked. That said, differences in claimed wattage of 100 watts or less are unlikely to result in significant differences in performance.

Convection mode A few microwaves include a convection oven feature, which has a heating element and a fan that distributes heat. In convection mode, you can set the oven temperature as you would in a traditional oven to bake or roast items.
Sensor Controls the cooking and reheating time automatically. It shuts off an oven when it determines (usually by sensing steam) that food is hot enough.
Stainless/SS-look option Stainless-steel is stylish, but it shows fingerprints. Another option: a vinyl-covered metal finish that gives you a stainless-steel look but resists smudging.
Microwave stopped working almost immediately on an intermitent basis. Purchased 3/14, died completely 12/14. No return policy with Whirlpool. Four trips by authorized repair service. Each attempt to put in defective parts failed. Parts are on back order so I have to assume this is a common problem. It relates to the control pannel and door latch. Keeps telling you to close door. As a result of our problem, warantee was extended by Whirlpool for a full year; however, if deemed unrepairable (which it is) they will offer a replacement (or if I fight long and hard) a refund. Installation costs were nearly as much as the microwave so no doubt they won't cover that expense. DO NOT BUY THIS MICROWAVE. IT'S A REAL LEMON AND VERY CHEAPLY MADE. It sparked on two technicians visits and I wouldn't trust it in my house even if it were fixed.
How long have you owned it:

Inside Parts Are Cheap
This makes the second kitchen aid and I should have learned. the parts are cheap and plastic and when the plastic connector broke it couldn't be fixed.<br />the mother board then blew and I think whoever builds these make sure they only last until your warranty runs out!
