About This Brand

Whirlpool's over-the-range microwaves feature what the company calls the Velos design, a venting system that removes smoke better than any other over-the-range model we've tested. The company also sells convection and nonconvection microwaves, some with speed-cooking capability. The ovens are sold at most major retailers and cost $300 to $800.

I'm shopping for a new OTC since this one that we got back in January has been the WORSE OTC we've ever had and dealing with Whirlpool Customer Service has just been a horrible, horrible experience! This model is LOUD and the night light feature comes on HIGH and you have to manually adjust it to the lower light setting. And the BIGGEST Issue was the interior cavity was getting HOT just from the light being used. Whirlpool Diamond Factory Service told me the night light was a marketing feature and wasn't meant to be used overnight...um, it's a night light! Regardless, the interior cavity would burn your fingers with the underneath light being on for only 8 minutes! I was able to fry an egg because it was so hot without ever turning the microwave on! I even checked the one on [...] sales floor and it did the exact same thing. After 4 months fighting with Whirlpool they finally are allowing me to exchange it for a different model. Also, the pop corn function always burnt our pop corn and the fan sounded like a jet engine taking off! Very loud!I don't recommend this model to anyone.

Comment:
The microwave had electrical issues - fuses would blow in the microwave and would trip the breaker. We had 5 service calls and microwave had to be replaced under warranty. Also, the light is too dim, the fan is loud, and the cooking is uneven.

Comment:
This microwave has had constant problems - it shorts out and stops working. It's also got a dull light and doesn't heat all that well. We're now on our 4th (and final) service call in 8 months (warranty replacement). Since it was throwing our circuit breaker, we've had a licensed electrician check it out and tell us that the problem is not with our electrical service but with the microwave. I purchased this because we previously had a KitchenAid and they are supposedly manufactured by the same people. I will NEVER purchase a Whirlpool product again.
