Comment:
I use this mostly for grinding grains and kneading dough. I love the attachments and versatility. Since it sits on my counter, it's been easy to get at and I use it often (it is hard to move around). It is very noisy. It finally died with a stripped gear (and I can't figure out how to get replacements, unlike another poster here), which I would not expect from a 'professional' model with the use I give it. Seems like the extra cost for the high end unit is not worth the price, and the warranty is no better.

Comment:
I own a classic model and a professional. In the classic I've been kneading dough for 2-loaf batches of bread with no problem for years. In the professional model I've stripped the gears twice doing the same task. I had to learn how to replace the gears myself, and now keep a supply of replacement gears on hand.

Comment:
I've had my Kitchen Aid Professional over seven years, and leave it on the kitchen counter, as I use it often. It mixes the ingredients for meatballs with ease. I make cookies once a week, and love the way my mixer performs. I don't think it's too noisy, but it is HEAVY! The only thing I don't like is that the beater doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl, so I'm scraping with a spatula. I'd buy another Kitchen Aid Professional in a minute.

Great Mixer
05/24/2008
Strength
Easy start up to reduce spilling, sturdy - quality construction, comes w/ 3 blades
Weakness
Large/heavy product, bowl can be challenging to snap in place.
This is a great mixer with high quality construction. It appears that it should last a lifetime. We have used the mixer a number of times and it works wonderfully. One thing to consider though - if you cannot keep it on your counter (as we cannot), it is heavy to lug around. The slow start on the mixer works great for reducing contents from spilling out of the bowl, however, when using the recipes that come with the mixer and the 5 qt bowl, we have noticed that some of the dry contents may spill out (likely wouldn't happen with the 6 qt bowl or if making a smaller quantity). We have one of the attachements but have not tried it yet. All in all a wonderful mixer that should last forever - meant for the occasional or the expert chef in the house.
