Comment:
Looked for long time before purchasing - knew wanted powerful machine with diverse capabilities, sturdy, easy-to-clean, good customer service. I cook & bake from scratch, being careful to use healthy - mostly organic - ingredients due to state of USA food & Standard American Diet (SAD) including the # of additives, GMOs, food enhancers, preservatives, dyes, heavy metals, foods put into our foods like corn syrup, hormones, antibiotics, etc; the decreased vitamin & minerals now in our foods that come off the grocery shelf as compared to the 1940s & prior; the stripping of our grains; and the over-use of same foods such as wheat, corn, yeast, cow's milk, etc.; and building meals around meats. Therefore, I wanted a powerful, versatile machine with good local customer service & support. I purchased the Viking 700 with 1000 watt motor so it would be up to the toughest tasks several years ago. I cannot have yeast so it was VIP that this machine had the power to knead vigorously, if needed, as I learned to make breads, rolls, and bagels without yeast. It has a high bowl which does not allow a great amount of room for adding ingredients. However, I viewed that as positive because it means ingredients do not pop outside the bowl. The unit is heavy, yet the reviewers didn't note that Viking added 'Easy Glide' Rear Wheels for easy and stable moving. This stability allows me to do other things in the kitchen while my mixer is working. The dial goes from stir (#!), then number by number to 12 - plus it also goes in reverse. I use reverse every time I use the mixer to insure I get all the ingredients mixed as well as after mixing, (I also can rest assured little hands from my grandchildren will not get into the mixer nor will they be able to pull the mixer off the counter due to its weight and stability.) I gently unlatch the lock, with the beater or whip still moving to get off all the ingredients - this again is where it's great to have such a high mixing bowl as it catches all the mixture coming off. It has at minimum 7 attachments:3 that attach to the high speed attachment area at the rear top of the mixer, 2 low speed attachments that attach to the front low speed attachment area at the front of the mixer, and 2 primary attachments that attach to the bowl area. This way each attachment is paired with the power source that will maximize their use. Using the attachments also one to make a full meal or casserole to be cooked or baked. When I consider rating the mixer I am most concerned about my personal needs and that is how I chose this mixer. As you have read the bowl height and mixer weight are positive to me, especially re: child safety issues. Since I purchased it, several other attachments have been developed. I also liked the one hole attachments it insures they are on balance and it makes for easy clean-up either by hand or in the dishwasher. I hope this has been helpful. Be sure to take a look at each you are thinking of purchasing before buying so it meets your particular needs. FYI. This is my 2nd stand mixer. I gave my Sunbeam away to a young friend, who did a lot of scratch cooking - especially since she still made the foods from the country she came from to America. I bought the Viking in my late 50's - just a few years ago.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
