About - Frigidaire FGEF302TNF

The Frigidaire FGEF302TNF is part of the range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric smoothtop range models like the FGEF302TNF are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful element could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3 quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects how well the lowest-powered element or burner kept a low temperature as for melting chocolate. We also set the most powerful element to its lowest setting to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

I've now owned this double-oven range for just about a year. I've encountered nothing but problems with the ovens, and I've used them in just about every way possible. I've cooked roasts and baked a variety of cakes and bar cookies. The actual oven temperature is NOT accurately reflected by the readout on the display panel, and it appears to take at least 15 to 20 additional minutes to reach the desired temperature. I've already had the entire circuit board replaced, and the temperatures are still off in both ovens. Moreover, the Quick Preheat does not work at all. The broiler element is supposed to cycle on and off to quickly bring the ovens up to temperature, but it is not activated in either oven. Once again, a technician is scheduled to make another service call, and I've just initiated a 3-year extended warranty, since I'm very seriously concerned about the quality of the product. <br />I selected this oven because it was very highly rated in Consumer Reports, and I do like the fact that both ovens are of equal size. I did not want a double-oven range with the larger oven on the bottom. That would have necessitated my getting down on the floor to remove most of the things I bake, since I routinely roast meats that would not fit in a small oven. I DO like this feature, and I hope that my ovens can be brought into compliance with normal temperature ranges, so I can count on being able to bake within expected timeframes. In the past, baked goods have taken up to double the expected time to be done, which has resulted in unevenly baked products of disappointing quality.<br />I also like the high-power front burners, one of which can also be used as a small or large burner. These very quickly come up to high temperatures, and seem to maintain their temperatures effectively, which is great for wok or other high-heat cooking. I would have been happier with a medium-power burner, rather than two low-power burners at the back, but I've managed to adjust to the lower power. The cooktop can be pretty effectively managed with respect to exact heat levels, so that is also a plus. Overall, the cooktop is quite good, but the ovens have been a huge disappointment.

My wife and I bought this oven along with a Frigidaire Refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher in July 2015. Today is Sept 11. Since the purchase date, I have wasted 3 work days waiting for repairmen to fix the oven or the microwave. This oven has an electrical short on the key board that triggers an error code and a miserable accompanying noise, when its plugged in. After 4 days of waiting for a repairman, the gent just told me that he didn't have the parts to fix it on his first trip to my home, even though I told Frigidaire the error code when I called them. I will have to take another day off, wait most of the day for him to return and fix the oven. It will be 7 days before he is scheduled to return and fix my oven. That means seven days that my family can't cook using the new oven that I just purchased. During my purchase, the Lowes salesman recommended a German brand. I insisted on Frigidaire because my parents had that brand when I was young… and it was at least mostly American. I made a mistake. When I spend several thousand dollars on appliances, I expect years of trouble-free performance. I recommend against purchasing Frigidaire products. The next time, I will buy the German, Japanese or Korean brand. I am disappointed.
