About - Samsung FE710DRS

The Samsung FE710DRS is part of the range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric smoothtop range models like the FE710DRS are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful element could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3 quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects how well the lowest-powered element or burner kept a low temperature as for melting chocolate. We also set the most powerful element to its lowest setting to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

Best Uses
Purchased for second home in 2012, used on weekends until we retired and moved into home full time 18 months ago. Edge chipped first year when utensil fell and hit it; Samsung won't cover cosmetic. Top scratches easily even though we are super careful. Drips appeared between oven door glass and no way to clean them. Worse, a key shorted and fried all the controls-over $500 in repairs. Repair technician says oven vent location allows steam to enter digital control board and caused the short. Poor design! Parts are hard to find and take weeks to arrive. Many technicians in our area refuse to work on Samsung for this reason. When it works it is great, but I will not buy another Samsung product. I researched carefully before buying this and it seemed awesome, but I am bitterly disappointed.

Glass top is nothing compared to my first and requires cleaning after every use. Had my first glass top for 18 years and it looked like new when I replaced it. Poor quality product for sure.
