Compressor Failure in Less Than Six Year

We bought this refrigerator in May 2007, gave it good care and light domestic use, and the compressor failed last week, less than six years after purchase. I would expect the compressor to last 20 years. When I contacted Amana, they simply said that part failure is not warrenteed (normal in their products I guess) after one year and they did not seem to be concerned.

We own a very similiar Amana model fridge to this one for the past 6 years. It has required 4 major repairs. The motor needed replacing when it was 11 months old and then again at the 4 year mark. The jazz board has been replaced twice. The ice maker made lound grinding noisy when it worked. The ice maker has finally broken and is too expensive to be worth repairing. I agree with a previous user who states this fridge is a piece of junk.

This appliance was purchased as a family refrigerator. Unfortunately my complaints weren't readily discerned when I purchased it. Over the last three years we have replaced the center rail for the vegetable crispers on three occasions. It is a poorly engineered and cheaply manufactured part. I breaks at the point of insertion. The door of the meat drawer is flimsy and comes off the retainer ofter. I would not have purchased this unit nor would I recommend it to a friend (if I wanted to keep the friendship.)

French doors - a BIG plus ! Full width drawer good for deli plates plus 2 veggie drawer Plus all that storage Besides !
Weakness
little noisy but nothing we can't live with.
I shopped around, alot deciding whether the in the door ice & water was worth the extra cost & on down the down maintenaince & I decided to get this one with the water dispenser just inside the door & have the ice mker in the freezer so as not as many things could go wrong. Overall, it was/is a great buy ! ! ! !
