About - GE GFSS2HCY[ ]

The GE GFSS2HCY[ ] is a bottom freezer refrigerator available from GE. The GFSS2HCY[ ] typically costs $1,439.10.

Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on bottom freezer refrigerator models like the GFSS2HCY[ ].

Claimed capacity (cu. ft.):
Claimed capacity is the manufacturer's estimate of the volume, in cubic feet, of interior space.

French-door style:
French door models are bottom-freezer refrigerators whose upper compartments have two narrow doors that open similarly to the doors of a side-by-side refrigerator. These narrower doors use less space in front of the refrigerator when opened, and allow access to either or both sides of the full-width fresh-food compartment. Typically more expensive, French-door models are usually 36 inches wide, though some newer models are 33 inches wide.

Stainless/SS-look option:
Stainless steel is stylish but it shows fingerprints. Another option: a vinyl-covered metal finish that gives you a stainless-steel look but resists smudging.

Tested Model
The Ratings of GE GFSF2HCY[WW] were applied to untested model GE GFSS2HCY[ ], which in our judgment is enough alike in its performance, features, and specs that our test results apply to both.

Comment:
This is the only attractive refridgerator that I could find that would fit, because it has a height of 67 and 3/4 inches, the same height as the opening. Big mistake.

Sears delivered it on-time and set it up. The shelves were adequate and I was excited, and I liked the lighting inside. I also liked the Stainless Steel look.

Unfortunately, after a day it wasn't cooling and all my food was melted or had gone bad. It was a Saturday and I called the GE repair center. I had to go through a multitude of voice response systems and finally got a real human to speak with. She was trained to keep saying I apologize for your inconvenience but would put me on hold for an extended period. They could not get a repair person out for four days. When I asked about a food loss she said she could transfer me to the compensation department to see what they could do. The whole thing is just a big, bureaucratic process and both Sears and GE are difficult to do business with, in my opinion. GE did think it might just be in demo mode so I tried that but it did not work.

Not only was my refrigerator sent DOA, but the whole interaction with GE was so slow and painful, so time consuming. For me, I will always try to avoid dealing with GE because it was such a painful experience.

Bottom freezer GE refrigerators with icemakers are rated by CR as having a high rate of repairs. It is only because of it's unique size that I bought it. CR called it right on--this is a problematic refrigerator.

Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
