About - Kenmore 7200[2]

The Kenmore 7200[2] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the 7200[2] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
Replaced frig that was 20+ years old that was still working.. for the top freezer ease. Putting food to close to the back wall caused the frig to go into defrost mode and made the food warm. And water drains out on the floor cause the drain gets clogged easily. This is after 1 year!!!! HORRIBLE Reliability!!!

Comment:
After six months, the appliance stopped cooling. It took Sears two weeks to schedule a service call. The result being the freon had leaked out into the filter. We requested a replacement unit and Sears refused saying it was repairable. The part was ordered and we were told they would return in one week to install it. We called Sears the next day and were told there was no indication of a service call on record for the following week. We were then told to call them when the part was received and they would then schedule the installation. We were trying to get by with ice and coolers but gave up. We purchased a dorm size refrigerator to get us by. We lost a tremendouse amount of food. Some neighbors are holding some for us. Sears refuses to compensate us for the loss of food and the cost involved with purchasing the dorm refrig. Not a nice way to treat two hard-working senior citizens!!!! Basically the consumer is at their mercy and ends up spending most of their time being put on hold or being cut off when calls are transferred. Shame on them.
