About - Kenmore 7620[2]

The Kenmore 7620[2] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the 7620[2] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

We're a long-time Sears/Kenmore appliance customer, but no longer.

Overall the refrigerator has a good interior design, is quiet, and is efficient.

But, this refrigerator died after 18 months, with a bad Freezer Fan and control board. The sales guy scared us into getting the extended warranty on the initial purchase, so I guess I'm glad we had that, at least.

On the other hand... to get warranty repair in our area, the first appointment was a non-negotiable 9 days away. Nine days without a fridge! Unacceptable. We will never purchase from Sears again.

Comment:
We bought this because we had a height limitation of less than 68.5 and wanted the bisque (almond) color. That didn't leave many to choose from. Overall, we were very happy with the refrigerator and it worked great. However, a high-pitched noise level was too irritating to allow us to keep it. After one month, we traded it in for a larger, white Whirlpool (and we need to trim our overhead cabinets). We were also pleased with the great service that we got from Sears to work with us on this.
I had this refrig just a little over 2 years and one morning I went to get ice from it and the light did not come on. I hit the light control switch and found the freezer had a build up of frost. The next morning I noticed the milk was warm. It was 60F in the refrig and the freezer had accumulated a lot more frost. The problem was the jazz board (control board) and it was $250 to fix. I am very dissappointed to have this repair expense 2 years after purchase.
