About - LG LFC25776[SW]

The LG LFC25776[SW] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the LFC25776[SW] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
Tried to buy a CR top rated model for everyday use. This is a noisy unit and never did a good job of holding the set temp. After 3 years, it stopped cooling and then things really got bad. Lost the entire contents of fridge and freezer; waited 4 days for technician to arrive from LG. He spent 3 hours and it cost me $228 as he replaced the compressor - he said this happens a lot - then he left and we waited the recommended 24 hours to being putting a few things in the fridge. 2 days after that it began getting warmer again in the fridge and the freezer. Called the tech who offered to come back but he did not show and did not call. Called LG again and they said they would send someone the next day. They called back and said we had to wait 2 days and would not give us a morning appointment. I have spent way too long waiting around for someone to show. I will write back with the final disposition but I cannot imagine ever buying another LG appliance. Check the Life is Not Good web site for many similar complaints.

A week ago I go into the freezer to discover just about everything defrosted, check the fridge and find that is starting to warm up as well. Had a local tech out here in a day and told us it was the compressor. The fridge itself was out of the extended warranty purchased but the compressor has a 7 yr warranty. LG sent a tech out who was going to charge us $500 for labor (parts were free....yeah right). Five minutes into the job of taking out the compressor he advises us that the fridge is not repairable as there is NO freon in the lines. Apparently there was a leak in the wall of the fridge. Calls to LG and being routed overseas only making it more frustrating. Finally got someone in the states for customer service...hoping they offer us something for the worthless 5 yr old refridgerator.

(Note: I have the LFC25770, but the door design is the same on the -776)

Having had this fridge for well over 5 years, I have experienced none of the problems described (especially with the ice maker, which has been flawless)

HOWEVER

It's difficult to get parts, and the door seals are poorly designed. Specifically, the door seals (the rubber gasket that goes around) seal to EACH OTHER down the middle of the fridge. There is no origami-folding piece that provides a surface to seal against, it's just the seal on the left door against the seal on the right door. After a few years, that rubber seal is now split and will need to be replaced.

I'm fine with buying another LG, but not a model that does the door seal this way!
