About - LG LFX25991[ST]

The LG LFX25991[ST] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the LFX25991[ST] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
One month almost to the day, woke up to defrosted freezer. Called LG who offered a repair person to visit 6 days later. When I said I couldn't wait that long, gave me the number to authorized service center. Repairman came out and diagnosed a bad computer board. When he ordered the part, found out it was back ordered until October 7 (3 weeks away). He was able to reboot the computer by unplugging for a few seconds and now working again but for how long? First sign of trouble was drip from ice dispenser which apparently is a sign of a rising temperature. Went back to store where I purchased and bought the 5 year extended warranty. After many long phone calls with LG, now working on getting a replacement. Not very happy but at least have extended warranty to fall back on. Did extensive research before purchase but obviously LG has problems with this model if part is out of stock.. Hope my RETURN AUTHORIZATION gets approved. This can take up to 2 business days.

Comment:
We love the counter depth as things don't get lost in the back or bottom as with a standard depth model. Very quiet. The alarm is good reminder to close the door. Ice maker works great, plenty of ice a ice is always fresh. We like the crush feature as well. A large family or heavy ice users would want a larger capacity ice maker. Freezer has serval layered drawers which glide nicely to avoid the lost items.

Comment:
There arethree adults in our family and we run it out of ice all the time. We had to use the plastic drawer in the freezer to keep enough ice for all of us. I tried to talk my wife into the LG with TWO ice makers but she said we would never use it. Boy, was she wrong.
The other complaint is the ice chute. There is a door that opens to let the ice fall into your glass, but ours drops a few cubes then halfway closes. This may be what others are experiencing, too. If this happens, the ice will form a clog of melting ice. That is where the water comes from and creates a bigger mess.
I need to call LG about this weak ice chute door opener/closer. Occasionally, it actually works right. I have developed the grab the chute door and hold to drop more ice. Otherwise the refrigerator works well and the freezer does its job very well, too.
I like the fact that the alarm tells my wife to close the door. She likes to explore the refrigerator for several minutes.
My wish is to get the ice chute door fixed. This is the one thing that bugs me about this LG appliance.
