About - LG LFX28991[ST]

The LG LFX28991[ST] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the LFX28991[ST] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
Appears to be a nice design. However, we have now had 6 repairs, yes 6 repairs, required. Apparently, there is a cold air flow issue associated with the freezer and indoor icemaker. We are now scheduled for installation of 2nd replacement computer board and fan assembly. Currently, we are getting ice/frost buildup in the (frost free) freezer which has blocked cooling air flow. Thank goodness we purchase a repair agreement!!

Comment:
Bought new LG LFX2899xx in November 2013. Instantly had problems with ice cubes sticking together & jamming the ice cube dispenser. Finally resolved problem completely by raising (yes raising, not lowering!) the freezer temperature to 0 degrees F (still with fridge temp set to +37 degrees F.). With ice cubes now a little warmer (freezer set to 0 deg. F) the cubes have a thin film of water on their surface (acts as a non-stick lubricant) to ensure they don't stick together and the ice cube dispenser problem is resolved. This useful information should have been in the LG User's Manual but it is not. Also, we would have prefered this fridge to be 1 to 2 inches taller to better accomodate tall items on the shelves inside. Would have prefered fridge overall depth to be 1 inch less, to better fit in cabinet/wall cavity. Otherwise the new fridge is very nice.
