About - Maytag MBF1958XE[W]

The Maytag MBF1958XE[W] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the MBF1958XE[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.
About This Brand

One of the Whirlpool brands, Maytag is a major player in the bottom-freezer section of the market. The company was one of the first to introduce a French-door model with an external ice-and-water dispenser and a cabinet-depth model with an external dispenser.

Comment:
We came across this ultra-energy efficient fridge through a website that let us shop by size. It fit into our kitchen perfectly (replacing an old fridge that came with the house). Because it is ultra energy efficient, we got 2 discounts from the power company. The large door shelves are awesome and it is easy find things inside. Sliding freezer drawer makes everything accessible and the Ice Maker works fine for us (even if it isn't a super fast icemaker)

Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
