About - Samsung RF261BEAE[SR]

The Samsung RF261BEAE[SR] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the RF261BEAE[SR] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
On the plus side, this unit holds everything I need it to hold. The door shelving could have more options for placement, but there are work-arounds.

I have owned this unit for nearly one year, and the ice maker has now failed for the third time, meaning this will be the fourth ice maker installed in the unit.

After the second ice maker failure, I decided to test the temperature settings to make sure I wasn't growing bacteria when I didn't want to. I set the refrigerator temperature to 37 degrees (f) and the freezer to 0 degrees (f). What I found, after placing calibrated thermometers in the refrigerator and freezer, was the following: the refrigerator temperature range was 36 degrees to 43 degrees. Good food safety requires food to be refrigerated to no higher than 41 degrees. The freezer range was -2 to -24 degrees. While this may be better, it really doesn't do me any good to be wasting electricity running the compressor so hard.

In addition, now a ball bearing has fallen from the freezer door, I think from one of the door glides.

After dealing with Samsung so often over the course of the year of owning this product, I am trying to get them to reimburse me for this unit and take if off my hands.

Comment:
We have owned this for 14 months now. We have had the ice maker replaced one time after 10 months. Now it is not working again and out of warranty. On top of the ice maker not working, it is also very loud. I would not recommend it.

Unfortunately, I didn't heed the warnings written here and many other places. I was lured in by the shiny surface and bright lights. Ladies and gentlemen, the popping sound is real. Samsung said it was normal to me too. Imagine sitting in your chair and calmy enjoying your favorite book. Someone sneeks up behind you and claps right by your ear. Do you jump? Yes, very high. It is loud and random. Not the ice dumping, that's a pleasant sound of success. Not just normal expanding/contracting that would be pleasant. Please don't purchase this fridge - or any Samsung now seeing how they don't stand by their products (they're afraid of the sound probably). Samsung rf261beaesr/aa purchased in July 2014, it's now only August 2014. *sigh*
