About - Samsung RF4267HA[WP]

The Samsung RF4267HA[WP] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the RF4267HA[WP] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
I like the French doors because all of the frequently used items are at eye level and the less often accessed freezer is at the bottom. When the doors are open, the door sill can be used as a surface to set things down temporarily - an unexpected feature. We use the handy center drawer for snacks, cheeses, and small items that could get lost in the main fridge. It maintains a steady cold temperature in the fridge and capacious, easy-access freezer. In the freezer, I like the compartment along the front of the drawer for small items. in the main fridge there are no slide-out shelves, though the shelves are relatively shallow so this is not a major problem. The ice and water dispenser often sprays water and ice outside of the target container, and bits of ice also eject on to the floor, although after a few months I am getting the hang of it and am better at aiming my drinking glass or pitcher under the dispenser. Wnen the compressor kicks in, it is a bit louder than our previous GE fridge, but not annoyingly so, and we found that most of the noise was caused by the vibration of beverage bottles we had stored on top of the refrigerator.

We purchased a similar product, Model #RF4287HAWP/XAA, in July 2013. A couple of months later we had a repairman out to fix a wire in the drawer. But on January 7, 2014, the refrigerator stopped cooling. That morning I went through an unusual ordeal on the phone with Samsung, and they said they would call back. At 4:00 PM, we called them, and they said that someone would call us back between 24 and 48 hours. Meanwhile, the food in the fridge and freezer were reaching 65 and 45 degrees F.

Finally, by calling aggressively, we got the name of a local repairman. They came the morning of January 8, 2014, and were very helpful and courteous. They told us the unit is leaking Freon. They have just left, and are awaiting a compressor from Samsung Central in order to troubleshoot the problem. The compressor may arrive in 1 or 2 days, from out of town. Putting in a new compressor will tell them definitively if it is a compressor problem or a coil leak. They will return July 11 in order to complete the diagnostic before requesting that Samsung replace the unit or refund us our money.

Naturally, I want to return the unit for a refund, but the retailer will not do that; hopefully Samsung will. We plan on buying a Kenmore.

It takes a while to establish the organization of the fridge, but once done it will meet all your needs.

We love the LED lighting, the upper drawer, which we use for drinks, the BIG freezer drawer and the smaller freezer drawer that slides out.

The ice maker and water dispenser is something I never thought I wanted in a fridge but since having it for about a year now I can honestly say I would not get another fridge without one, simply because they are very convenient, and the water filter really improves the taste of the water, and without any work on our part.

Love the warning chime when a door is left ajar.
