About - Samsung RFG237AA[WP]

The Samsung RFG237AA[WP] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the RFG237AA[WP] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
3-4 years. Selected because it was a counter-depth. All 6 kids gone. limited depth so we can see everything and try to use everything. Cools fine. Ice maker is lousy. we have some frost now and then. Everything works fine but I am seriously waiting for something to break. our older refer was 20+ years and the sale person told to expect no more than 7-8 years-pretty expensive for 7-8 years. the other reviews are not too good, we must not be that discerning.

Comment:
TWO ADULT HOME. LOOKS GREAT, SIZE GOOD. HAPPY WITH ICE & WATER, QUIET.<br />STAINLESS DIFFICULT TO KEEP FREE FROM MARKS. FREEZER COMPARTMENT PRODUCES SNOW AND ICE ON EVERYTHING IN THE DRAWER(S) INCLUDING THE ACTUAL DRAWERS COVERED IN ICE. ICE FORMS ON THE EXTERIOR DOOR TRACKS SO THAT WHEN THE DRAWER IS OPENED ICE PIECES FALL OFF ONTO THE FLOOR. PROBLEMS STARTED AFTER 6-8 MOS. AFTER MULTIPLE REPAIRMAN VISITS TO REPLACE THIS & THAT - RETURNED FOR EXCHANGE, SAME PROBLEM WITH 2ND FRIDGE. THAT IS NOW GOING BACK TO BE REPLACED BY ANOTHER MAKE ALTOGETHER. MAJOR PAIN THAT IS A DESIGN FLAW - THERE IS NO FIX. SEEMS DIFFICULT TO FIND ANY COUNTER DEPTH THAT IS FREE OF PROBLEMS.

Comment:
Product reliability has been very poor. Bought new 2 1/2 years ago and since then we've replaced control board, power inverter board, sensors, thermistors, and most recently a compressor- a total of over $1100 in repairs on this expensive unit.
