About - Samsung T9000 RF32FMQDBSR

The Samsung T9000 RF32FMQDBSR is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the T9000 RF32FMQDBSR are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
We've owned this fridge for almost two years now. I LOVED it when we bought it... unfortunately the ice maker is a make or break deal. We bought the extended warranty through the store we purchased it (whoo hoo!) and have had to have the ice maker replaced twice. I just had to schedule an appointment to have this third ice maker taken care of. It leaks water, which freezes the bin into the fridge, and then the ice maker slowly quits working. To make matters worse, we have to find somewhere to put all of our items (we bought a big fridge for a reason...) while it thaws so we can get the ice maker replaced!<br />I love the big size, I love the 3 separate compartments, I love the unique design, but without a working ice maker it's just not worth it.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
This is a great refrigerator except for the ice maker. The quality of the ice is poor. It is cloudy white, breaks easily, is misshapen and clumps together easily. I have talked to Samsung twice and had one service call. The results of this is that the refrigerator and ice maker are working properly. The poor ice quality is due to them deciding that with a fridge mounted ice tray that is quite small, they had to make it a very quick freeze (30 min. or less) to provide sufficient ice under heavy home demand. This means that there is not enough time for the dissolved air to escape the almost frozen ice. Unfortunately, this is not adjustable.

Comment:
Like everyone else here, my ice maker is also defective. For those who don't know, the ice maker is located in the top of the refrigerator section. It is plagued by what is now a well-known design issue: water slowly leaks inside it, even if the bin is full and it's not calling for ice to be made. This water overflows and freezes the bin in place. From there, the leaking water runs down the inside of the fridge, causing a frozen waterfall. I've spent more than four hours on the phone with customer service, including the Executive Customer Service Section, and received nothing but contradictions and an expert runaround. I am now the owner of a 500 pound, $3500 paperweight. Don't walk – RUN – away from this unit and this company. Consumer Reports, I see there is still no mention of the design flaw or the SEVERE customer service deficiencies. With absolutely no cautionary notation of these facts, my confidence in you is also waning.
